Yesterday at the gym I noticed a young blonde, slender as a willow, with a pierced navel and pink jeans. Her trainer spent half an hour teaching her the exercises. Then he left her alone for a minute, came back, and asked, "How many have you done already?"
In an innocent and exceptionally blonde tone, the girl replied, "Oh, do I need to count them?"
There was also a funny deaf guy with an earring who communicated with everyone using a single gesture: "twirling a finger at his temple." And everyone responded by making various signs with their fingers. I even felt inadequate: how does half the gym know the language language of the deaf? Or are they making it up as they go?
Incidentally, I once saw some deaf girls from a boarding school while riding a tram. Judging by their flashing fingers, they were chatting at machine-gun speed, but in complete silence.
It looked mesmerizing.
